Public Policy Forums
AED Program will carry out Public Policy Forums (PPF) in order to generate discussion between NGOs and the GOM on critical issues limiting healthy NGO-Government engagement and cooperation: definition of roles, restrictive enabling environment, and lack of transparency (anti-corruption). The public policy forums are scheduled to be held at the end of Year One of the program and two additional PPFs in Years 2 and 3 respectively, for a total of five PPFs throughout the life of the program. An additional PPF will take place to discuss legal reform issues, as appropriate. The public policy forums will take place in Chisinau or the regions, including Transnistria, depending on the nature of the topic to be covered.
Program NGO grantees and relevant local and central government officials that are engaged with NGOs are invited to play an important role to maintain this mechanism for a constructive engagement among civil society and the Government, which the Program will help to strengthen.
AED will also work with our partners to engage in broad NGO initiatives such as the National NGO Council, as well as Government bodies, including the National Participation Council to further develop and improve national policies such as the Civil Society Development Strategy 2008-2011. We will also work with all grantees and NGOs involved in program activities to stimulate greater interaction with local public authorities. AED will also reach out to the appropriate government and donor programs to make certain that its interventions are relevant, complementary and have the best opportunity to be sustainable over the long run.
